Valkyrien Allstars – 20/7
Valkyrien Allstars is here to stay – thank goodness!
Valkyrien Allstars is known as one of Norway’s best live bands, and since their first release in 2007, they have been at the forefront of developing arranged folk music. The band has taken new directions with each release and has ended up with a completely unique expression that they share with no one.
Their latest studio album, “Slutte og byne,” won the Spellemann Award in 2020 in the Folk category and suspiciously resembles pop music. However, for the observant listener, there will still be clear references to Norwegian traditional music. The title track quickly became almost a mantra for people from the south to the north, and the album was hailed as the best release of the year on most lists, receiving glowing reviews from the country’s largest media outlets.
The band consists of Tuva Syvertsen, Magnus Larsen Jr, Erik Sollid, and Martin Langlie, who together create and arrange songs that remain an eternal love and mysteries that are never solved. Both on record and live, there is energy, intensity, and surprising twists on a bed of what is difficult to simulate: sparkling interplay.
